Proteins – My Personal Protein Powder Go-To’s

posted by Stran

I have had so many people ask me to make recommendations on proteins that I have used over the last several years in my quest for better fitness.  I must say that I have relied heavily on my dear friend and “trainer to the stars,” Dodd Romero for all of my nutrition and fitness.  Dodd has taught me so much, and I credit my passion to clean eating to him.

I really try to change up the proteins that I use to keep myself from getting burned out on any one in particular.  I also add a couple of different things to give my shake a “little love,” as Dodd would say.  I have a VERY expensive blender and have tried them all, but my absolute favorite, by far, is the Magic Bullet for one simple reason.  You fill it to the top with ingredients so there is no air when you screw the lid on and your drinks never get that nasty protein drink froth!  Nasty!  No one wants that. I usually mix all of my shakes with ice and water or egg whites if I am trying to get in more protein.

A few Low Sugar things that can add to the flavor of your drink are:

  • Vanilla (I add a cap full)
  • Cinnamon
  • Blueberries (a fruit relatively low in sugar)
  • Almond Milk
  • Nuts (I add them after and prefer almonds, pecans, or Walnuts)
  • Instant Coffee
  • Unsweetened Cocoa
  • Stevia (Skinny Girl) or Truvia to taste
  • Chia seeds

All of the proteins I am recommending contain lots of amino acids, which help your body with muscle repair.  Some of them contain creatine.  Don’t be afraid of creatine. It existed naturally in meat and helps oxygenate your muscle.

When I pick up a new protein shake or bar, the first thing I look at is sugar content.  Don’t fool yourself.  Some of them have as much sugar as a milkshake or candy bar.

If you have ANY questions, please feel free to comment and I will follow up.  Remember, there are other great proteins.  These are just my favorites.

Until Next time, See you down the line and God Bless

Can you rate them by taste? On multiple occasions I’ve purchased a tub of protein powder and absolutely hated them. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing. I have tried many protein powders and finally found one I like. Realized it had too much sugar (probably why I liked it so much). I am waiting on order from Quest to try theirs. If I don’t like it, I may check out some of the ones you recommended.
